INSOMNIA
Insomnia nu se poate ascunde. Incepand de la ochii injectati si cearcane si terminand cu pleopele grele, deficitul de somn este practic inscris pe toata fata ta – si daca te deranjeaza prejudiciul adus figurii tale, atunci ar trebuie sa vezi ce se intampla in interiorul corpului tau.
Cei care sufera de insomnie au un risc crescut de boala si moarte prematura, practic.. Suferinzii de insomnie vor avea, de asemenea, un risc sporit de deces din orice alta cauza, incepand cu 25% mai mult pentru un simptom si ajungand la 139% pentru toate trei.
Care sunt riscurile ce decurg din insomnie ?
- somnul insuficient poate tripla riscul de insuficienta cardiaca: un studiu recent a plecat de la cele trei simptome majore ale insomniei: incapacitatea de a adormi, discontinuitatea somnului si trezitul devreme cu sentimentul ca nu ai dormit destul. Prezenta unui singur simptom creste riscul de insuficienta cardiaca cu 17%, doua simptome vor dubla acest risc, si trei simptome il vor tripla;
- lipsa de somn timp de o saptamana modifica peste 700 de gene, majoritatea legate de recuperarea dupa stres si functia sistemului imunitar;
- insomnia afecteaza sistemul imunitar astfel: melatonia si prolactina generate in timpul somnului stimuleaza productia de macrofage si leucote necesare pentru eradicarea infectiilor virale, bacteriene si eliminarea substantelor straine din organism;
- lipsa de somn te ingrasa deoarece altereaza metabolismul: leptina scade (hormonul care semnaleaza satietatea) si grelina (hormonul apetitului) creste; de asemenea scade TSH-ul (scade metabolismul) si capacitatea de a metaboliza carbohidratii (pana la 40%)
- insomnia creste riscul de diabet, prin scaderea leptinei ceea ce promoveaza ingrasarea accelerata, scaderea productieie de insulina (pana la 30%) si rezistenta la insulina (in special datorita cresterii nivelelor cortizol), ce duc in final la aparitia diabetului;
- lipsa de somn afecteaza creierul deoarece acesta nu mai produce celule noi;
- insomnia duce la imbatranirea accelerata a organismului datorita dezechilibrelor hormonale si metabolice pe care le genereaza;
- Lipsa de somn creste riscul de cancer datorita dezechilibrelor hormonale pe care le induce (in primul rand prin scaderea melatoninei)
Considerand aceste riscuri, este clar ca nu iti poti permite o alta noapte fara somn.
Cat de mult trebuie sa dormi ?
Adultii au nevoie intre 6 – 9 ore de somn pe noapte, dar exista numeroase cazuri in care este necesar mai mult somn: in anotimpul rece, in perioade de stres emotional intens, in primele 3 luni de sarcina la femei, dupa zborurile cu avionul pe distante lungi etc
Regula cea mai simpla de apreciere a in/suficientei somnului este gradul de oboseala si lipsa de claritate in gandire la trezirea din somn.
Care este solutia pentru insomnie ?
Este tentant sa apelezi la medicamente, ce poate fi mai simplu ? De fapt, nu este chiar atat de simplu pe cat pare deoarece medicamentele nu isi fac efectul asa de bine pe cat scrie in reclama lor, nu ofera somnul de calitate care sa permita regenerarea si, in plus, vin cu o multime de riscuri – incluzand un risc de deces care este chiar mai mare decat cel provenit din insomnie.

Insomnia poate fi o caracteristica /simptom al mai multor afectiuni psihiatrice, dar nu este privita ca un criteriu de diagnosticare pentru o afectiune specifica. Insomnia poate fi unicul simptom al anxietatii, depresiei si stresului sau poate fi un factor de risc pentru aparitia/recurenta anumitor afectiuni psihiatrice. Exista si alte afectiuni ce pot provoca insomnia: obezitate (legata de sforait/apnee), pre-menopauza (scaderea melatoninei si cresterea FSH,LH), sindromul picioarelor nelinistite, dezechilibre hormonale (tiroida, suprarenale), constipatie cronica, autism, fibromialgie, boala Lyme, paraziti intestinali dar si dezechilibre nutritionale sau greseli alimentare.
